Frequently Asked Questions on Lampshades

1. How do I choose the right shade for my base?

Have a look at our lampshade Size Guide here. Ideally the height of the shade will need to be approximately around two-thirds of the height of the lamp stand. It’s important to get the proportions right. A shade that is too tall will not look good, and neither will one that is too short. It will make the lamp look to be out of balance. The switch should not be visible when your lampshade is fitted.

2. How do you clean the shades?

Gently vacuum on lower suction or certain shades you can wipe with a lightly damp sponge. Always check the instructions on each shade.

3. Are the shades and lights fire resistant?

Yes they are backed with a PVC which has been tested in the Lighting Association Laboratories and has passed the glow wire test to conform to Luminaires BS EN 60598-1:2015. Test reports are available if requested.

4. What type of lamp holder will this lampshade fit?

The frame has been designed to fit any UK fitting (Bayonet Cap B22) or European (Edison Screw E27). It comes with a clever little convertor plug which enables it to work with both fittings. If you are unsure don’t hesitate to contact us as we are happy to help.

5. Do you make lampshades for US fittings?

Yes, these can be ordered specifically so please e-mail Karen for a quote.

6. Do you make shades with a diffuser?

Yes, these can be ordered so please contact Karen for further details.

7. What wattage Bulb can be used in the shades.

We recommend the use of low energy bulbs with all your lampshades. Ideally a 60watt bulb. They use less energy and the lampshades are a popular kids gift as they are cool to the touch making them safe for their rooms.
